Merciful God, Who calls us the Most Valuable Players, have mercy on the Bryant family and all who are suffering due to lives lost in the recent helicopter crash.
We remember Kobe as one who expressed love for us through his gifts to unite people. Basketball was a tool which helped him reach so many of us beyond the bleachers. He dreamed, he lived successfully, shared his goodness and he showed mercy on those in need.
Our sadness intersects with the storm in our country’s democracy. For we are reminded that one who plays the game of life fair and square wins our hearts.
When the clock runs down and the Holy One says “well done,” come home my daughters, my sons, my loved ones, “it is finished.” We are called to that eternal place where life is everlasting. Well done Kobe! You’ve finished your assignment.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” Matthew 5:8
Amen
