A Prayer for Congressman John Lewis

Merciful God, Let not this day and these moment’s be John’s last,

Let not his body rapidly slow down, nor his thoughts wrestle and run too fast,

May every cell in his body behave, cooperate,

May your Spirit, O God rule and dictate, his time and present state,

Almighty God, Ruler, Breath of Life and Bread for life’s journey,

Give Congressman John this day, his Daily Bread and clothe him for the journey ahead.

Forgive him as he forgives loved ones, strangers, coworkers and friends,

O Holy One, deliver John whole and intact to his final destination,

Gracious God, help him to know our agape love and appreciation for his lifetime of witness, work and service.

Lord receive our prayers in Your Holy Name. Amen.
