Where are the Peacemakers?

“For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.” James 3:16-18 NIV

Where are the Peacemakers?

Lately, sowing seeds of peace seem to be unfashionable, outlandish, strange, old-school and boring. There appears to be an uncanny attraction to disorder and evil practices. Some people follow the trajectory of shotgun comments closer than a stream of heavenly wisdom. Like bullets, our words fire a steady stream of grave insults that accumulate as spoiled, rotten fruit. We wonder how to get rid of the stench that breeds envy and hatred. Sugarcoated words without deeds done in humility only deepen the wounds that lead to disorder. Many of us get caught in the web of despair trying to find peace and justice.

 Where are the Peacemakers?

We shout, “Come out, and come out wherever you are!” We sing,

“We are the world, we are the children

We are the ones who make a brighter day

So lets start giving

There’s a choice we’re making

We’re saving our own lives

Its true we’ll make a better day

Just you and me.”

Shouting and singing taste good and satisfy our hunger for peace for a little while but it doesn’t give us lasting peace. We need divine wisdom that springs forth from a godly truth. Let us pray:

Holy God of Wisdom, Might, Light, and Love give us a renewed heart, mind, and spirit. Bless us with heavenly wisdom that springs forth from your truth. Your truth is pure, peaceful, loving, considerate, submissive and full of mercy. Bless us, O God to embrace your truth, hold onto your peace. Give us the stamina to be impartial and sincere peacemakers who sow in peace and reap a harvest of righteousness, good fruit that is fresh and enduring. In Your Holy Name, we pray, Amen.
